Wait Times & Scheduling

Timely Access to Orthopaedic Care

One of the main reasons patients choose private orthopaedic care is to avoid prolonged delays in assessment and treatment. At Ortho South, we work hard to provide efficient access to experienced orthopaedic surgeons and a streamlined pathway from consultation to surgery.

Because every patient's situation is unique, wait times can vary. Factors such as surgeon availability, consultation preferences, surgical complexity, medical clearance requirements, and facility scheduling all influence how quickly appointments and procedures can be arranged.

Consultation Wait Times

Most inquiries receive a response within 1–2 business days.

Response times may occasionally be longer during periods of high demand, staff absences, holidays, or when additional information is required before your inquiry can be directed to the appropriate member of our team.

Many patients can be scheduled for consultation within 1–3 weeks, depending on surgeon availability, consultation preferences, and location. Patients requesting a specific surgeon, an in-person appointment, or a particular clinic location may experience longer wait times.

Consultations are available in both Calgary and Vancouver, with virtual and in-person options available for many patients.

Surgery Wait Times

For patients who are candidates for surgery, our goal is to schedule treatment as efficiently as possible while maintaining the highest standards of safety and care.

Once a patient has been assessed and all required pre-operative clearances have been completed, surgery can often be arranged within approximately 6–8 weeks. Actual timelines vary depending on surgeon availability, facility scheduling, procedure type, and patient-specific factors.

Patients who are flexible regarding surgeon selection or treatment location may have access to additional scheduling options.

Medical Clearance Requirements

Patient safety is our highest priority.

Before surgery, some patients require medical clearance from their family physician or another specialist. Depending on your medical history, required investigations, and local healthcare resources, obtaining this clearance can sometimes take additional time.

For this reason, surgical dates are generally confirmed only after all required medical information has been received and reviewed. This helps avoid unexpected delays and ensures patients can proceed with confidence.

Calgary and Vancouver Availability

Ortho South provides care in both Calgary and Vancouver. Appointment and surgical availability may differ between locations depending on surgeon schedules, operating room access, and local administrative requirements.

Our team will work with you to identify the most appropriate consultation and treatment options based on your goals, preferences, and timeline.

Why We Don't Publish Exact Wait Times

Every patient's circumstances are different. Factors such as surgeon availability, consultation format, surgical location, procedure complexity, and medical clearance requirements can all affect scheduling timelines.

For the most accurate estimate, we recommend contacting our team directly. After reviewing your condition and treatment goals, we can provide guidance regarding consultation availability, surgical planning, and the next steps in your care journey.

We are committed to providing clear communication throughout the process and helping patients access orthopaedic care as efficiently as possible.
