What’s the Process?

No referral is required to book at Ortho South! Simply call, email, or submit an online request to book a consultation. We will do our best to get back to you within 1-2 business days.

What Happens during the First Visit?

Initial consultations at Ortho South are usually booked for a full hour. We will sit down with you, go over your symptoms, function, ideas, feelings, and expectations, as well as your past medical history. A thorough physical examination will also be completed, and we will review all of your imaging. We will then explore treatment options in detail to help you decide the best options for your unique situation. If surgery is necessary, we’ll explain the procedure in detail, including the risks and benefits, as well as ensure you fully understand the process, recovery timelines, and address any other concerns you may have.

Team-Based Care

At Ortho South, you’re not just seeing one person. We’ve got a team working behind the scenes to ensure you get the best care. If you need help from physiotherapists, pain specialists, or anyone else, we’ll help make sure you are connected with the care you need.

How to Get Ready for Your Appointment

  • Obtain your medical imaging – We will need copies of X-ray images and any advanced imaging available (such as MRI). In addition to the reports, we will need the actual images to view. It is critical that we have the reports AND images available to view before the consultation appointment. Our office can assist you in getting the imaging and reports to us in a timely manner.

  • Complete a “new patient intake form” – You will be provided a new patient intake form to complete prior to scheduling your appointment. It is important to fill this out completely, and in as much detail as possible. This will help our team have a better idea about what type of treatment might be required, ensure all necessary tests and medical records are available in advance of your consultation, and sometimes allow us to anticipate holding a surgical date.

  • Prepare questions – This is your chance to ask about treatment options, recovery times, and any other concerns you may have. Think about these ahead of time and writing them down will help make sure you don’t forget to ask any important questions you may have.

  • Wear comfortable clothing – You will need to move around during the appointment for us to complete your detailed physical examination, to properly assess your condition.
